SHAWN
WALLACE
A
dance music fan since the late 1980’s, Shawn Wallace was enthralled with the club
scene after attending “Aahz” at the legendary Beacham Theatre in downtown
Orlando, Florida. These sets,
spearheaded by Kimball Collins and Dave Cannalte, proved a pivotal moment as he
was drawn into a realm where music was the drug of choice and Shawn, the
willing addict. “The feeling of
watching as the DJ would build the crowd to a frenzy was amazing. It was an almost spiritual moment when the
slightest change in the music by the DJ would have a clear and unmistakable
effect on the crowd.”
Since then, Shawn has taken his passion for dance music to the next level, progressing from enthusiastic observer to avid participant. He has been a regular weekly contributor to the About Dance Music website, submitting both music reviews and several interviews conducted with DJ’s/Industry figures, including DJ Hyper, Freddy Bastone, Judge Jules, Pete Gawtry, Simon Berry, Chris Fortier, Louie DeVito, Mike Rizzo and more recently with fellow Central Florida resident Noel Sanger. He has also built a solid friendship with former About Dance Music Media Guide, Jennifer Warner, who was named in DMA’s most influential list. “Jennifer [currently at Raves.com] has been a wonderful guide to the world of music journalism.”
In addition to the recent achievements listed above, Shawn
formerly operated the Urban Prophet Online website from January 2000 until
October 2000, a music review site that covered an array of styles ranging from
indie rock to pop to country to experimental, finally narrowing to focus on the
dance/electric genre, his first love.
Where Urban Prophet Online left off, Rhythm Theory, a collection
of all Shawn’s reviews and interviews, continues. The Rhythm Theory website is published quarterly and is available
for review at http://urbpro.tripod.com at any time. Shawn has also been asked to contribute work to the Orlando
Weekly, a print newspaper distributed throughout the Central Florida area, and
has been a contributing writer at the All About DJ website since prior to its
official launch in September 2002.
Through numerous relationships built with representatives at
several record labels and public relations firms merged with a genuine passion
for all forms of electronic music, Shawn Wallace has a profusion of talent,
ideas and resources to offer the dance music world.
